Two friends in college get a first hand exposure to the Nazis as they come to power in Germany. It nearly costs one of them his life.
As World War Two looms on the horizon they decide to do what they can to defeat them from inside the Abwehr.
Both are from well-to-do families, one German the other Yugoslav, they could have chosen to sit out the war.
The German has worldwide business interests, but he decides that he can’t just stand by and watch the people he loves and the world he knows be torn apart.
He convinces his Yugoslav friend to join him.
Like heading into the casinos they knew so well, in the beginning the stakes are low and easy.
As time goes by, staying in the game becomes more and more dangerous.
Will they make it out alive?

Although I consider myself a WWII history buff, I did not know anything about these two brave young men who opposed the Nazis from within the Third Reich. They devised a shrewd plan to undermine the Third Reich by capitalizing on the greed of the Nazi leadership.
I enjoyed the book as much as any novel by the great Tom Clancy.
